Born in 1965 in Basirhat, West Bengal, Manas Biswas completed his art education from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata.
Biswas would like to label himself an abstract painter who uses everyday objects as inspiration, yet removes them from their informed reality. Biswas frequently uses classic studies from nature, but rather than rendering them to truthful perfection, he uses his brush and colours to create an abstract piece which to the viewer is a sight that is seen and yet not observed.
Biswas held his first solo exhibition at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata in 2001, followed by others at the same venue in 2002 and 2005. Biswas’ work has been a part of several group shows hosted at the Bengal Artist Society at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata; Samakal Art Gallery, Kolkata; and Art Panache, Gurgaon.
