Born in Cuncolim village in Goa, India in 1960, artist Mohan Naik has a Bachelor of Fine Art at Goa Art College. He draws his childhood memories on canvas. Idyllic scenes of villagers are the main subjects for this Goa Based artist Mohan Naik. He draws his inspiration from his immediate surroundings. Living in an isolated village in South Goa in the midst nature, his life inspires him more than anything to paint.
Since his childhood, watching villagers and their families go about their daily lives, the beautiful village which is not the same as now, gives him a place to portray the past life and memories. Jaded skinned men and womenfolk going about their usual days of hard work in their fields, goats leaving with their masters early in the mornings, etc., help him live his earlier days back again. Goats, men and womenfolk, stones, trees etc. are some of a few elements found in his paintings. All these objects have been a part of his younger life.
