Amritraj Koban was born in Latur, Maharashtra in 1975. He graduated with a Government Diploma in Art (Drawing and Painting) from Pune in 1997
For Koban, Buddhism goes beyond religion and is more a philosophy or “way of life”. He is most at peace while conjuring an image of Buddha in a restful, meditative state. Koban, through his depiction of Buddha has developed a signature style. He restricts himself to soft, muted hues of earthy tones and so the feeling of calm and tranquility permeates through all aspects of the canvas. The colors on his canvas are earthy with reds and ochres, and he surprisingly blends different shades of blue into the drawings to add contrast and depth to the paintings.
