Gopal Subhedar (1938 – 2012), obtained his Graduate Diploma in Art (Drawing and Painting) from J.J. School of Art in Mumbai.
Late Gopal Subhedar, well known artist who passed away in 2012, had acquired many followers in the art field. He himself was lucky to be the disciple of master painter Late A.A. Almelkar in the early seventies.
As many of the artists start their journey with still life pictures, nature and landscapes, Subhedar too followed the prototype but with his unique pictorial vocabulary. He was determined in his quest for fresh ideas, his longing for his roots and penchant for learning the nuances of art. In fact, most of his pictures are testimony to his experiences during his early struggle. He employs certain style in his paintings that renders them different from the rest. Initially working with the oil on canvas medium, he portrayed the harmony between nature and rural masses.
