The gods of India have never belonged solely to the past. They have lived through stories, rituals, paintings, sculpture, music, and memory – constantly evolving with each generation that reinterprets them. Their forms may be ancient, but their meanings remain timeless.
This show brings together artists who revisit India’s rich pantheon through both traditional and contemporary perspectives. From classical iconography to bold reinterpretations, the exhibition explores how the divine continues to inspire artistic expression across generations. Each work reflects a unique dialogue between heritage and innovation, where mythology is not preserved as history alone, but reimagined as a living source of creativity.
The exhibition celebrates the many ways in which artists engage with the sacred – through devotion, symbolism, abstraction, storytelling, and modern visual language. Familiar deities emerge in unexpected forms, inviting viewers to look beyond iconography and consider the universal ideas they represent: wisdom, courage, abundance, transformation, love, and hope.
Rather than presenting the divine as fixed or distant, Gods: Old & New reveals its remarkable ability to evolve while remaining deeply rooted in India’s cultural consciousness.
